Identifying Who We Are:
The Eastern Shore Presbyterian Church Logo

As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.
— John 17:18
As a church called to be in the world and not of it, it’s important to get noticed! And as we go out into the world to reach others for Christ, it’s important they know who we are and what we believe.
Unfortunately, our former logo wasn’t telling our story. So in June 2021, a committee was formed to explore the creation of a new one. Multiple designers from around the world were given this charge:
Design a modern, forward-looking church logo that relates to the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay, represents a church on a hill, looks good when displayed in print and online, and includes reverence for historic Christian symbolism but doesn’t look too “churchy.”
After multiple options were presented, a winning design was chosen that memorably accomplishes all these goals. Some will see it and think, “it’s the ichthus!” Others will see it and think “fishers of men!” Both responses would be correct.
Either way, we should want to be seen at ballgames, community events, or driving down Greeno Road. Our new logo will help tell the world who we are as we go out beyond our church doors to reach others—whether it’s seen on a hat worn by someone in Ecuador on a missions trip, or on the side of our bus headed to RYM.
Our logo features simple graphic elements:

- ● The arc — representing ESPC’s physical position on the hill along US Hwy 98
- ● The “greater than” sign — representing God’s supremacy above all
- ● A map of the Eastern Shore — representing our geographic location
- ● The map outline was simplified to make it more graphic and point to the East

The elements were then combined to create a modern version of the Icthus symbol.

- ● The head of the fish is cleverly designed to represent the Eastern Shore, with the eye marking the approximate location of ESPC
- ● The Southern arc of Fort Morgan is clearly visible, and a subtle wave of the bay waters along the shore can also be noticed
- ● The tail of the fish is shaped like a “greater than” symbol, indicating that God is greater than anything else that follows
This new logo mark—entirely unique for ESPC, yet instantly recognizable as Christian—is intended for use on all church properties from signage and our website, to promotional items such as shirts, hats, and banners. Display it proudly!
